Grand Diver vs Pro Diver (Comparison)

As you can see from the comparison table above, the most striking difference between the two lines is the size.

While Invicta Pro Diver watches can be considered to be “regular dive watch size” (between 40mm-43mm), the Grand Diver models are significantly bigger, with the majority of them measuring 47mm. While saying that these models are oversized would be a bit of a stretch, they probably won’t look as good on small wrists as the Pro Divers will.

With that said, some people prefer larger watches, while others find them to be too big and bulky for everyday wear. It really comes down to personal preference.

The other noticeable difference is the water resistance levels. Again, most Pro Divers, just like the one included in the article, are water-resistant up to 200m while the Grand Divers come with a 300m rating.

Now let’s take a closer look at both of the best-selling divers from each line.

The 89260B model is our pick from the Pro Diver line since it’s the best-selling Pro Diver model to date and one of the best-selling Invicta watches of all time.

Design & Durability

When it comes to the exterior, it’s easy to see that this and many other Pro Diver models are clearly inspired by one of the most iconic dive watches of all time, the Rolex Submariner.

The similarities are most notable in the case design, with the Pro Diver 89260B featuring a black unidirectional, coin-edge bezel often referred to as Tuna because it resembles the shape of a can of tuna fish. This is a very popular design approach widely used by watchmakers with Submariner homages in their offer. Bezels designed this way are definitely easier to grip, which is a big plus for divers.

The case is made out of stainless steel and it’s 40mm wide, making it one of the smaller Pro Diver models. The included 3-link bracelet is also made from stainless steel and features a fold-over clasp with a safety release. Like all Pro Divers, this model is again heavily influenced by Rolex when it comes to the clasp, using a stamped sheet metal clasp often seen in Rolex collections.

What’s important to note, the caseback of all automatic Pro Divers is transparent, allowing you to peek at the workings of the movement.

Moving on to the dial, it’s black with luminous dotted hour markings and hands, making it easy to read time in darker conditions (eg. underwater). The date window is positioned at the 3 o’clock position, just like the screw-down crown bearing the Invicta logo. Protection against cracks and scratches is ensured by mineral glass.

Movement

Although Invicta doesn’t manufacture its own movements, a lion’s share of its watches is powered by ultra-reliable Japanese movements. The 89260B model is no different and it uses an automatic caliber NH35A produced by Seiko.

This movement offers all the features you’d expect from an entry-level dive watch, including a fairly decent accuracy (-20/+40 seconds per day) and a 41-hour power reserve. It’s also worth mentioning that this movement is used by many other watch brands, including Seiko itself.

Water Resistance

As we’ve already mentioned, the Invicta Pro Diver 89260B comes with a water resistance rating of 200m (660ft). This is more than enough for snorkeling and swimming but it’s worth pointing out that Invicta Pro Divers aren’t ISO-certified – meaning they shouldn’t be used during professional diving.

So, if you’re looking for a watch that you could take with you on deeper dives, you should check out the list of professional dive watches stamped with ISO certificates.

The 3045 model is the current best-seller from the Grand Diver line and although it’s similar to the smaller sibling in many ways, it also comes with a few noteworthy differences.

Design & Durability

The most notable difference is the size – while the Pro Diver 89260B is 40mm, the Grand Diver 3045 is 47mm. Whereas at first sight, you might think it’s just down to the case size, contributing to this are also the massive lugs and case thickness (17mm compared to 14mm of the Pro Diver model). The considerably thicker case is the result of an aggressively domed caseback.

The design of the bezel is also clearly different – and we’re not only talking about the blue color either. While the Pro Diver model comes with a coin-edge bezel in the mold of a Rolex, the one on the 3045 model is polished and very similar to the ones you can find on Omega watches. Without a doubt, the polished type is much more difficult to grip, making it less suitable for use in water.

The 3-link bracelet is also thicker and comes with solid end links (compared to stamped links on the Pro Diver). Both divers feature a safety-style clasp, but the Pro’s is stamped sheet metal in the Rolex fashion, while the Grand’s is plate steel similar to what you see in Breitling watches.

When it comes to the design of the dial, it’s very similar albeit much more spacious to what we’ve seen on the Pro Diver. The face has a dark blue background and includes luminous hour markers and hands, as well as a date window at the 3 o’clock position. The screwed-down crown at the same position is also slightly different since, instead of the Invicta logo, it features a diving helmet logo.

Akin to the Pro Diver discussed above, the watch has a transparent caseback and mineral crystal glass.

Movement

No surprises on this front since the movement used is again the Japanese-made automatic caliber NH35A.

Water Resistance

This is where the two watches differ the most. While the Pro Diver model can withstand depths of up to 200m (660ft), the Grand Diver 3045 has a significantly higher water resistance rating of 300m (1000ft). However, just like in the case of the Pro Diver, the Grand Diver isn’t ISO-certified and shouldn’t be used in professional diving.

Invicta Pro Diver vs Grand Diver: Verdict

So, which one of these two Invicta watches is the better choice? Well, it all depends on your needs and preferences.

If you’re looking for a smaller watch with a more traditional design, the Pro Diver 89260B is definitely the way to go. However, if you prefer a bigger watch with a slightly more modern look, the Grand Diver 3045 might be a better option.

When it comes to water resistance, both watches are more than suitable for swimming and snorkeling but the Grand Diver is a more secure option thanks to its higher rating (300m vs Pro Diver’s 200m). At the same time, it’s worth noting that neither of these watches is suitable for professional diving since they lack the required ISO certificate.

In terms of movement and accuracy, both watches are identical, powered by a super-reliable Seiko-made automatic caliber with really solid parameters for a dive watch in this price basket.

And since we’ve touched on the subject of prices, the difference here is pretty much non-existent and both watches can be snapped up for around $100.

So, there you have it – a comparison of the Invicta Pro Diver 89260B and the Grand Diver 3045. Both are great dive watches in their own right, so it all comes down to personal preferences as to which one is the better choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

We hope that the Pro Diver vs Grand Diver comparison has made your decision of picking the right timepiece easier. But just in case you still have some questions, we’ve gathered the most frequently asked ones below and provided answers to them.

Is Invicta Pro Diver worth it?

The Invicta Pro Diver is definitely worth its money. It’s a great dive watch with a solid build, super-reliable movement, and an impressive water resistance rating. Not to mention that it looks very similar to a Rolex Submariner, but without the hefty price tag.

Is the Invicta Grand Diver a good watch?

The Invicta Grand Diver is also a great watch, offering everything that the Pro Diver does but in a bigger size. So, if you’re looking for a bigger dive watch with a similar design and features, the Grand Diver is definitely worth considering.

Can you dive with Invicta Pro Diver or Grand Diver?

While the Invicta Pro Diver can withstand depths of up to 200m (660ft), it’s not suitable for professional diving since it doesn’t have an ISO 6425 certification. So, it can be used for swimming and snorkeling but not for diving.

What movement is the Invicta Grand Diver and Pro Diver?

Both watches feature the Japanese-made automatic caliber NH35A. It’s a very reliable and accurate movement that’s often used in Invicta’s divers.

Does Invicta use Seiko movements?

Yes, Invicta does use Seiko movements in some of its watches. However, not all of them are powered by Seiko movements. The American brand also has a line with exclusively Swiss-made movements, as well as a mechanical line powered by Chinese calibers.

How long do Invicta automatic watches last?

Invicta automatic watches are generally very reliable and can last for many years with proper care. However, like all watches, they will eventually need to be serviced in order to keep them running smoothly.

Can I swim with my Invicta watch?

Of course, this will depend on the specific model but in general, Invicta watches with a water resistance rating of 100m+ are suitable for swimming. You can definitely swim with all Pro Diver and Grand Diver models.

Where are Invicta watches made?

While Invicta is an American brand, today most of its watches are assembled in China.
